This morning we made a stop by the house and were VERY encouraged when we passed two electric company trucks coming out of our neighborhood. I told the kids there was a very good chance that our house had been fixed (they talk all the time now about how Ike broke our house). Lauren waved to the trucks and started clapping! When we pulled into the driveway I could see our porch light on. We all did a little happy dance and then went inside. It was like Christmas morning for the babies. They hadn't seen their toys in 2 weeks! They just kept saying "OH!!" and would run from toy to toy. We spent a good 30 minutes at the house with them getting reacquainted with every room and object in the house. They were silly excited! Since weren't expecting to stay, I told the babies that we would go back to Grammie's to nap and that we would pack up all of our stuff and be back home later, after Daddy got off work.
Which we did.
We napped, ate a yummy Grammie dinner, STUFFED our cars with all of the belongings we'd accumulated over the past two weeks (which was an absurd amount!) and said our goodbyes to Grammie and Aunt Pammie. As we shut the back of the car, I joked that it would be pretty funny if we got back to the house with all of this stuff, only to find that the power that we had this morning was a fluke. Turns out it really wasn't that funny! We pulled in to a very dark neighborhood and found our house to be powerless. Our neighbor said it was on from about 11am to around 5:30 this evening. It was getting late, the babies were cranky so we decided to just come back over to Grammie's. We'll try again this weekend! At least we know it CAN come back on and we're very thankful to have somewhere to go. The triplets are wacky enough to keep up with in daylight...I'd rather not see what they can come up with in total darkness!

So I'll leave this with Lauren's quote that has been repeated over and over and over again these past few days...
"Ike - GET YOU!"
(This is her response to things like bees, snakes, lions, tigers and now hurricanes!)
We were happy you guys came back, but sad that the babies couldn't sleep in their own house and play with their toys. Maybe today...
ReplyDeleteI was really sad when you were all loading up to go back home, but I felt really sorry for you when you called to say you had no power! It sure is fun all being together, but I will say a little prayer that you will get your lights back on for good this time!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Grammie
I know how badly you and the babies miss just being at your house! Hopefully your lights will come back today and stay on for good. It's hard to be away for a long time, but especially when it isn't a planned vacation!
