Week 16

Week Sixteen

* Fat begins to form underneath skin, providing your baby with insulation for the coming months.
* Did you know that both baby and placenta are now about the same size?
* Your little one has reached 4.57 inches (11.6cm) and approximately 3.53 ounces (100gm).
* His head and neck are held straighter now.
* Her heart is pumping as much as 6 gallons of blood a day and beats at a rate about double your heartrate.
* If you could take a peek inside, you would witness your child's reflexes in action! (Sucking, swallowing and blinking are now evident.) She is probably even hiccuping even though you don't feel it yet!
* Your baby has learned to breathe! This is apparent from the regular movements of his chest. Isn't it amazing that he is able to breathe "underwater," inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid? These actions help the lungs to develop and grow.

Pink or Blue?

Baby A (face)

Baby B (profile)

Baby C (face)

Well today we had our 15 week ultrasound where things like bones, arms and legs were measured. Each baby is growing right on schedule and Dr. Kirshon was even able to tell us the sexes... Baby A - Boy, Baby B - Boy and Baby C is our little girl!!! We can not believe how blessed we are to have a mixture and are super excited to be able to start picking things out and decorating the nursery. How perfect!!!

We had a list of questions that we wanted to ask but the fire alarm went off during the ultrasound so our visit was cut short. We were given a prescription to help with nausea...yeah...and also one to start progesterone shots again...ouch. Not quite sure the reason for progesterone because he was writing the presciption as the building was being evacuated but we trust that it is for a good reason and so will happily comply!

Our next visit will be on February 14th...Patrick's birthday!

First Appointment with Dr. Kirshon

Baby C (12 weeks 2 days)
January 3rd...
Today we had our first appointment with our perinatologist, Dr. Kirshon. We had lots of tests run including a detailed ultrasound...everything looks great! The babies weigh about 1 ounce each. Our appoinment lasted FOREVER but we got a lot of information. Next week I will have a cerclage put in to reduce the risk of preterm labor and to make sure the babies stay put. We were also told that bed rest would probably begin at 20 weeks...the last week of February...YIKES! We have a lot to get done before then! Next appointment (besides surgery on Jan. 11th) will be January 24th...be on the lookout for an update!
