There will be a #4 (and maybe even a #5 if I get my way!) somewhere down the road but not now.
We had our first doctor's appointment since finding out we were pregnant 3 weeks ago and didn't get the news we were hoping for. The ultrasound showed that everything was progressing perfectly up until 6 weeks 4 days, but then stopped (we should be at least 10 + weeks along). My body is still producing the hormones that make it think its pregnant but the baby can't be seen. This happended to us back in '05 and we were told that it "rarely" happens to the same person more than once. Lucky us!
We can't be too upset though, we often fall into the lower/not as likely side of statistics but that's also how we got our triplets!
The downside of our luck...
* Infertility affects about about ten percent of the reproductive-age population...that was us!
* A blighted ovum (our diagnosis) is often a one time occurrence, and rarely will a woman experience more than one.
On the other hand...
* There is only an 18% chance of spontaneous conception after IVF treatment. It may not have worked out for us this time but we know we'll join this group again soon.
* Odds of conceiving triplets...I couldn't find the exact number but trust me we got lucky!
And we defied to odds way too many times to count with our triplet pregnancy & preemie little ones.
So its sucks for now but I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason why it didn't work out.
I have one more ultrasound next week just to make sure and then will have a D&C on Wednesday.

Sorry to hear the news. I had a miscarriage at 15 weeks. It was painful at the time but you do heal. We don't always know why God allows bad things to happen but I did feel His comfort during that time.
ReplyDeleteStephanie,
