Lauren's Surgery

10-2-2009

On Friday we left the boys with Grammie & Granny and took Lauren down to Texas Children's for her surgery.
Lauren's surgeon was in the same group that performed all of the trios surgeries and procedures in the past (from their heart PDA's to central lines and hernias) so we knew we were in excellent hands. I was still nervous though that Lauren would be scared and I hated to think of her being alone (we've done plenty of preemie/infant surgery but this was our first experience with a toddler). Turns out I had nothing to worry about... Texas Children's was AMAZING! Lauren was a part of all of the decisions like what flavor gas she wanted to fall asleep to (she chose cotton candy!), they let her choose how she wanted to ride back to the operating room (she rode in a wagon - see the video below, but she could have ridden a plasma car or any other ride on toy) and they let her take her baby bear with her. Plus, Lauren was given Versed which made her extra loopy. When it was time to go, I pulled her wagon to the operating doors and then a nurse took over without Lauren even knowing I had left. Then they waited until we were with her in recovery to wake her up so as far as she knows, we never left her side. HUGE RELIEF :)

Lots of toys to play with while we waited

I LOVE this video! Lauren was feeling pretty good here! She was in her wagon waiting to go back into surgery...just a little bit loopy from her "happy" medicine! Can you imagine her riding the plasma car into surgery?!?! I think the wagon was a good choice!

In recovery...

Her bear even got a hospital bracelet! We were told that Lauren would probably wake up upset and that it would be hard for her to shake off the groggy feeling. She woke up sleepy, but never complained once or shed one tear! Such a brave baby girl!

A few sips of Sprite and we were out of there!

Lauren was extra spoiled that day...

Surgery was a success...recovery has been easy...SOOO much to be thankful for!

  3. I could not find why Lauren had surgery...may be private, but, I was wondering. The Versed sillies were hilarious!
